Medium and Heavy Truck Sales Up 6% in April

Medium and heavy truck sales were up 6% in April over the same period a year ago and down 3% from the previous month.

Medium and heavy truck sales were up 6% in April over the same period a year ago and down 3% from the previous month, according to figures compiled by Wards Communications.

Dealers sold 59,796 trucks with GVW ratings above 10,000 pounds during the month, up from April 2014 (56,387) and down from March 2015 (61,887).

Compared with April 2014, Class 8 trucks were up 15% (20,509, compared to 17,776). Class 7 sales were 4,008, down 3% from the 4,127.

For the year, truck dealers have sold 219,021 trucks with GVW ratings above 10,000 pounds, up 11% from 196,750 in 2014. Class 8 sales have been 76,318, a 22% increase from the same period last year (62,323). Class 7 sales have been up 10% (16,901, compared to 15,298).

Total sales of all classes have been up 11%, from 2,789,040 to 3,088,709.

Every class has been up, except for Class 6. The biggest increase has been in Class 4 (17%).
