Medium and Heavy Truck Sales Up 11% in March

Medium and heavy truck sales were up 11% in March over the same period a year ago and up 25% from the previous month.

Medium and heavy truck sales were up 11% in March over the same period a year ago and up 25% from the previous month, according to figures compiled by Wards Communications.

Dealers sold 54,480 trucks with GVW ratings above 10,000 pounds during the month, up from March 2013 (49,206) and February 2014 (43,454).

Compared with March 2013, Class 8 trucks were up 25% (16,452, compared to 13,101). Class 7 sales were 4,037, up 20% from 3,375.

For the year, truck dealers have sold 140,363 trucks with GVW ratings above 10,000 pounds, up 6% from 132,530 in 2013. Class 8 sales have been 44,547, a 15% increase from the same period last year (38,805). Class 7 sales have been up 6% (11,171, compared to 10,532).

Total sales of all classes have been up 7%, from 1,892,091 to 2,029,864.

Every class has been up, except for Class 3. The biggest increase has been in Class 4 (16%).
