Medium and Heavy Truck Sales Up 20% in January

Medium and heavy truck sales were up 20% in January over the same period a year ago and down 32% from last month, according to figures compiled by Wards Communications.

Dealers sold 28,757 trucks with GVW ratings above 10,000 pounds during the month, up from January 2010 (23,980) and down from December 2010 (42,320).

Compared with January 2010, Class 8 trucks were up 25% (9,236, compared to 7,387). Class 5 sales were 2,608, up 20% from the 2,061 sold.

Overall truck sales were up 29% for the month (454,243, compared to 350,785 in January 2010).
