Mack Receives Three More Orders From Army

Nov 2, 2009 12:00 PM

Mack Trucks, Inc. has received three additional delivery orders for MACK Vision Elite model tractors from the U.S. Army TACOM Life Cycle Management Command.  The orders are part of a three-year $28.5 million contract for 152 heavy-duty tractors and trailers, as well as spare parts.

Orders received under this contract since its inception in October 2008 already total $20.2 million, but the Army has the option under the contract to order additional product from Mack beyond the quantities outlined in the original award.  Other recent orders from the Army under separate contracts total $4.88 million.

The three additional delivery orders include 46 Vision Elite tractors with 70-inch high-rise sleepers, paired with 35-ton lowboy trailers, and spare parts.  These three orders total $6.6 million, with delivery scheduled for May and June 2010.

Known domestically as the MACK Pinnacle Axle Back model, the Vision Elite tractor is designed for use in markets outside of North America and is powered by an export version of the MACK MP8 13-liter diesel engine.

Demonstrating it can meet or exceed Army deadlines, Mack has already delivered 80 Vision Elite models to TACOM in 2009, with 18 more on track for delivery in November.  Under a separate contract, Mack is also providing the MACK Granite Elite tractor model to TACOM for use in frequently harsh on/off-highway operations.

The MACK trucks supplied to TACOM are assembled in the U.S. at the New River Valley Plant in Dublin, VA and the Macungie Assembly Operations plant located outside of Allentown, PA.
