Kenworth Receives Order for 500 T700

Refrigerated carrier Stevens Transport has ordered 500 of Kenworth Truck Co.’s new T700 Class 8 tractor, looking to boost the fleet’s overall fuel efficiency numbers with these new trucks.

“Aerodynamic trucks are an integral part of our business strategy and the Kenworth T700 will deliver enhanced fuel efficiency and lower emissions,” said Steven Aaron, Stevens chairman & CEO, adding that Dallas, TX-based Stevens is a member of the Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) SmartWay program, meaning its fleet meets voluntary fuel efficiency and environmental performance targets.

Stevens, which purchased these 500 T700s through MHC Kenworth of Dallas, spec’d these tractors with Kenworth’s 75-inch Aerodyne sleeper and 400-hp Cummins ISX engine.

The T700 is the designated replacement for Kenworth’s T2000 highway tractor and is designed as a high-roof aerodynamic long-haul tractor that offers 8 ft. in interior sleeper height – making it ideal for team operations, said Bill Kozek, the company’s GM.

“It also offers a 3% improvement in [aerodynamic] drag compared to our T660 highway tractor, which translates into a 1.5% gain in fuel efficiency,” he noted. “This order from Stevens is a great way to help launch the T700 into the North American market.”
