Heavy Truck Segment Leads China’s 1Q Strength

Over 290,000 heavy-duty commercial vehicles were sold in China during the first quarter, a 9% gain over the same quarter of 2010. The heavy truck segment of the market posting the best performance, while the heavy tractor segment declined from the previous year.

Including the medium-duty truck and bus segments of the market, over 390,000 commercial vehicles were sold in China during the first quarter of the year.

This information is included in the recently released China Commercial Vehicle Outlook report published jointly by ACT and SIC, China’s State Information Center, and released quarterly. The report also includes an overview of the China economy and its impact on sales of heavy- and medium-duty trucks and buses, as well as OEM market shares. The next issue of The China Commercial Vehicle Outlook will be published in September 2011.

“The China heavy-duty commercial vehicle volume was over 1 million units last year, and we expect the market to come in just under 1 million units during 2011,” said Kenny Vieth, president and senior analyst with ACT. “While we expect some easing during 2012 and 2013 as well, the overall commercial vehicle market in China continues at robust levels.”
