Sale wouldn't alter GM brands, network

Even if GM's medium-duty commercial truck business is sold, the TopKick and Kodiak brands will stay intact and the trucks will be sold and serviced through the same GM dealer network, according to Mark Karney, GM Fleet and Commercial Operations (FCO) marketing director for vans and trucks.
GM recently sent a letter to its medium-duty dealers in which it stressed that its medium-duty network and brands are not being discontinued:
“GM cannot confirm or announce at this time any decisions related to the GM medium-duty business. However, we can advise you that GM's' medium-duty business strategy does not include the discontinuation of the GM medium-duty dealer network or any of the GM medium-duty brands. Chevrolet and GMC medium-duty dealers will continue to be able to sell medium-duty trucks pursuant to their GM Dealer Sales and Service Agreements, and those vehicles will continue to be sold as Chevrolet and GMC branded products that meet or exceed our customer requirements.”
Navistar International has indicated that it has been engaged in discussions with GM to acquire the medium-duty business, which is based at GM's Flint Truck Assembly Plant. The deal reportedly would be valued at $100 million.
“An agreement with GM could become an important part of our growth strategy as we leverage our core strengths in commercial trucks and engines,”Navistar chairman, president, and CEO Daniel Ustian said in a statement. “GM would entrust Navistar to support two of its most important brands because of the depth of our experience and success in the medium truck business.”
