July net orders of 11,667 heavy-duty Class 8 commercial vehicles was 27 percent below June, but was still up 27 percent from July of 2009, according to ACT Research Co. (ACT).

In the latest release of the State of the Industry: Classes 5-8 Vehicles, ACT further reported net orders of medium-duty Classes 5-7 equipment rose both month-to-month and year-over-year. Compared to July 2009 medium-duty net orders were up 100 percent.

“Normal seasonality accounted for about a third of the month-to-month decline in Class 8 net orders,” said Kenny Vieth, partner and senior analyst with ACT. “The momentum in Class 8 demand is still increasing as trucking company profitability continues to rebound strongly.”
