Wabash National Corp. is rolling out two new trailers – the FreightPro and the DuraPlate HD – with hope that the new offerings will fully return the company to profitability. FreightPro comes with standard features such as an air ride suspension, premium brakes and corrosion-resistant DuraPlate doors. It also features a high-strength nose design, comprised of four 16-gauge steel posts (rated at 80,000 psi), and a built-in aluminum gutter prevents moisture from entering the cargo area, Wabash said. Fitted with a carbon steel, powder-coated rear frame, FreightPro also features a non-slip bumper surface for increased safety and a 12-in. steel scuff for exceptional lower sidewall protection. It will be manufactured at Wabash's Lafayette, IN, and the company expects production capacity will eventually ramp up to 15,000 units in 2004. Wabash has also introduced a new version of its DuraPlate trailer line called the HD. The DuraPlate HD trailer is built on a new base plate design that provides an additional 22-in. of lower sidewall protection, where it is estimated that 90% of all trailer damage occurs, said Wabash.
