Universal Trailer Corporation announced today the completion of its acquisition of Sooner Trailer Manufacturing Company. This acquisition will make Universal Trailer the largest specialty trailer manufacturer in the United States. Sooner joins Universal Trailer’s current brand family, Haulmark and Exiss. Haulmark Industries Inc. is the largest brand of enclosed cargo trailers in the U.S. Exiss Aluminum Trailers Inc., headquartered in El Reno, Okla., is a leading manufacturer of all-aluminum horse and livestock trailers. “Universal Trailer’s goal is to create a complimentary family of niche-focused brands that lead their respective categories in size, reputation, innovation, quality and value. We are raising the bar in trailer marketing and customer satisfaction,” said Tom Frey, chief executive officer of Universal.Sooner Trailer builds aluminum horse and livestock trailers at its 130,000-square-foot facility in Duncan, Okla. Sooner distributes products through a network of dealers located in 37 states and five Canadian provinces. “We are pleased with the opportunities this merger will bring. Sooner products can now access much broader markets and Universal gains entry into the custom and high-end horse trailer market with the strong Sooner brand,” said Jim Garis, chief executive officer of Sooner.“Universal now has three great brands,” said Frey. “We have manufacturing facilities in seven states and the broadest product range in the industry. We plan to further enhance our position in the trailer industry by adding to our family of best brands. As we grow, each Universal Trailer brand will remain close to its customers and in touch with market needs by operating as independent marketing organizations.”
