While CFOs in general have become less optimistic about the state of the industries in which they operate, transportation CFOs have had the smallest decline and still remain one of the most optimistic groups of CFOs, according to a survey by GE Capital.

The U.S. Mid-Market CFO Survey, which polled chief financial officers across seven different industries, including trucking companies, showed that 63% of transportation CFOs plan on increasing the percentage of new equipment in their business—a 5% increase from the first quarter of 2011.

They are most concerned about safety and truck accidents (84%), fuel-price volatility (78%), and retention and recruitment of quality drivers (76%). When it comes to the impact of regulations, they are most concerned about hours of service (75%).
