Thermo King continues to introduce new refrigeration units in its redesigned SB-series. The latest announcement, third in the series so far, was the SB-190 unveiled during the Mid-America Trucking Show in Louisville, Kentucky.
The SB-190 is essentially the base unit in the SB-series. The standard SB-190 lacks the full range of bells and whistles such as the electronic throttling valve found on the SB-200. It is rated for 46,000 Btu/hr at 35°, 32,000 Btu/hr at 0°, and 21,000 Btu/hr at -20°. Ordered with the optional performance package, capacity at 35° is boosted to 60,000 Btu/hr, which gives the SB-190 overall capacity identical to the SB-200.
Standard equipment for the SB-190 includes the MP-VI Smart Reefer controller with OptiSet temperature management, long-life coolant that requires changing only at 12,000-hour intervals, and Thermo King's X430L compressor. The optional performance package adds the electronic throttling valve, temperature modulation, Thermo King's DAS data acquisition system, and a high-capacity condenser coil. The Whisper Edition noise abatement package also is available as an option.
Thermo King also introduced its new UTS undermount refrigeration unit for large straight trucks at Mid-America. The UTS is a single-temperature unit that mounts under the truck body skirt and cools with a remote evaporator mounted inside the body on the ceiling. The unit is powered by Thermo King's TK 3.95 three-cylinder diesel engine powering the TK 6.0 hp scroll compressor. It is charged with R-404A. Electric standby power is available.
Two evaporator configurations are available: the TLE-6 for maximum cargo space or the UTS-E for maximum refrigeration capacity. The TLE-6 takes up less than seven inches of vertical space in the truck body, while the UTS-E is roughly 12 inches deep. Unit capacity with the TLE-6 is 29,000 Btu/hr at 35°, 17,000 Btu/hr at 0°, and 12,000 Btu/hr at -20°. The larger UTS-E evaporator boosts capacity to 31,000 Btu/hr at 35°, 20,500 Btu/hr at 0°, and 12,500 Btu/hr at -20°.
Addition of a new compressor, the result of Thermo King's acquisition of Zexel Cold Systems of Japan, has upgraded the CD-II small and medium straight truck unit to the CD-II Max. The new TK-208R reciprocating compressor is designed for long life in low-temperature applications. Charged with R-404A, it has a large oil sump, an oil pump for forced lubrication including the top-end during deep-frozen operation.
The CD-II Max can be ordered with an optional by-pass oil filter and a noise abatement package.
