The average installation time for conventional (upright) liftgates weighing 4,001 pounds or more has decreased since 2000, according to the recently released 2005 Shop Installation Results Report published by the National Truck Equipment Association (NTEA).

Current average installation time reported for conventional liftgates is 8.8 hours, down from the 11.2 hours indicated when the report was last published in 2001 (2000 data).

The report is the results of a study of 111 NTEA distributor members conducted in 2004. It was developed to assist commercial truck and transportation equipment businesses with process improvements. Results aid distributors in establishing baseline installation times for their operations that will ultimately improve shop productivity and profitability. The publication is also a resource when evaluating new areas of service and delivers benchmarks for companies having — or seeking to initiate — flat-rate compensation or bonus systems.

Newly organized to provide data on small and large distributorships, the report also provides national averages as well as further breakdowns in five regional areas.
