Shur-Co, a manufacturer of tarp systems for trucks and trailers, has donated an entire semitruckload of waterproof vinyl tarps to the victims of Florida's recent hurricanes. More than 600 tarps in various colors, shapes, and sizes were shipped to Volunteer Florida, a public-private non-profit organization based in Tallahassee FL. Shur-Co heard about the group through the Federal Emergency Management Agency.

With the encouragement of Shur-Co President William Shorma, a team of employees put together a collection of tarps, ranging in value from $50 to $300 each that were in inventory. In addition, when Shur-Co contacted one of its partner/customers, Smithway Motor Express of Fort Dodge IA, for a price transportation quote for the emergency delivery to Florida, that company offered to donate transportation costs and a driver.

Smithway picked up the shipment from Shur-Co in Yankton SD for delivery to Fort Pierce FL, where the Volunteer Florida group unloaded and distributed the tarps.
