Senator Debbie Stabenow (D-MI) introduced S. 734, the Advanced Vehicle Technology Act of 2011—a companion bill to Rep. Gary Peters’ bill in the House, H.R. 1367—and the Senate Committee on Energy and Natural Resources has scheduled hearing on the bill for May 19.

These bills have bipartisan support and would provide funding to a wide spectrum of programs furthering the development and deployment of medium- and heavy-duty trucks utilizing alternative fuels and advanced technologies.

In the last Congress, a similar version of Rep. Peters’ bill passed the House by a vote of 312–114 but did not make it through the Senate before adjournment last December.
