SCS Transportation Inc. has announced that its 3Q revenue, operating income and net income increased over the prior year's results. SCS, the parent company of both Saia and Jevic, had revenues of $211.5 million for the quarter, up 5.2%, operating income of $11.2 million, up 37.8%, and net income of $5.1 million, up 28.1%. "As we conclude our first year as an independent company, we are pleased to again report improvements in revenue, operating income and earnings," said president & CEO Bert Trucksess. "Moving into our second year, we are encouraged by signs of an improving economy, that along with our operating initiatives, point toward continuing upside opportunities." Revenue at Saia was $134.3 million in the third quarter, compared with $127.6 million a year earlier. Third-quarter operating income for Saia was $8.1 million, up 24.2% from $6.5 million a year earlier. Saia's third-quarter operating ratio was 94.0%, an improvement from 94.9% a year earlier. At Jevic, 3Q revenue was $77.2 million, versus $73.6 million a year earlier. Operating income was $3.8 million versus $1.9 million in the third quarter of 2002. Its 3Q operating ratio was 95.1% compared to 97.5% a year earlier.
