Schneider National is expanding into the local and regional bulk hauling arenas.

Within the last year, Schneider introduced shorter length of haul capabilities to shippers in four U S markets, with expansion into additional markets planned for later this year.

Schneider Bulk’s local and regional service operates out of Schneider National operating centers/terminals in the South, Midwest and Eastern United States. In 2007, Schneider first began offering the service to the Houston, New Orleans and Chicago markets. This past April, Schneider opened a new terminal in Pittsburgh and simultaneously launched the service in that market.

According to Schneider, response to the regional offering is faring well, prompting additional expansion. With a new terminal scheduled to open this summer in Keasbey, New Jersey, shippers in that market can expect bulk local and regional service for their area before the end of 2008. Other markets throughout the United States will continue to be added over the next few years, leveraging existing Schneider locations.

“Today’s bulk customer has a mix of long and short haul needs,” said George Grossardt, vice president and general manager of Schneider National Bulk. “Providing local and regional bulk service gives customers a single-source bulk solution that capitalizes on Schneider’s history of safety and service.”

Today, Schneider National offers three bulk solutions for shippers: long haul, local/regional and fuel hauling (which premiered in March 2008). All three services meet Schneider’s standards for service and quality. Since safety is the company’s core value, shippers can be assured that Schneider bulk services will align well with their own safety policies. In fact, in 1992 Schneider was the first bulk carrier to earn ISO certification; last year, the carrier was awarded with the American Chemistry Council’s Responsible Care Certification.
