During the past financial year (April 1, 2000, to March 31, 2001) Schmitz Cargobull AG became European market leader for the first time in the commercial trailer sector (semitrailers and bodies), with sales rising 12%. With sales growth up to 653.8 million euros/DM 1,278.6 million (previous year 584.0 million euros/DM 1,142.3 million) and an average of 2,476 employees over the year, the company recorded a pre-tax profit margin of 6.0% (previous year 7.4%).

In Germany, Schmitz Cargobull consolidated its market position in the tilt semitrailer segment at 31% (previous year 29%) and built on its position in the refrigerated semitrailer sector with a 62% share (previous year 57%). The firm had a 19% market share (previous year 17%) of the articulated-tipper segment.

Both market share and sales were up 2% in the central European markets. In the United Kingdom, market share has consolidated in the refrigerated semitrailer sector at 35%.

Schmitz Cargobull's accruals of fixed assets and intangible assets amounted to 27.8 million euros/DM 56.2 million in the financial year just past.
