Retail truck sales down 9% in August

Franchised dealers of United States truck manufacturers sold 827,395 units in August—a 9% decrease over the previous month, when 907,154 were sold—according to data published by Ward's Communications.

The biggest declines were seen in Class 2 (10%) and Class 1 (9%). Class 6 (up 7%) and Class 8 (up 5%) remained strong.

Year-to-date sales were up 4%, with 6,498,208, compared to 6,253,928, with Class 6 (up 50%) and Class 8 (up 43%) showing the biggest gains.
