Reading Body Works was chosen to build, install, and paint 55 custom bodies for the New York City Fire Department after the attacks of Sept 11, 2001. The city's Fire Department had lost much of its fleet and needed to replace it quickly. By combining its resources in sales, engineering, and production, Reading managed to respond to New York's request quickly and manufacture the bodies at a reduced cost. This was done with the help of Vasso, Reading's local distributor, and Gabriella Ford, a truck dealer that coordinating the deal.
