Prototype of new Feldbinder five-compartment gasoline tank semitrailer is being tested in the UK and Germany. The 42,600-liter (11,200-gallon) conical-cylindrical tank is nested between the wheels for lowest center of gravity. The four-bar (58-psi) tank is cylindrical to better handle those pressures and to roll over without bursting in case of an overturn.

The shell is constructed of 5 mm (.20") high tensile aluminum comparable to 6.64 mm (.26") of the 5083 alloy to comply with regulations. It has only a single circumferential weld. It is equipped with bottom loading and vapor recovery systems. Unloading is by gravity discharge.

The 11,540 mm (38 ft) tank trailer stands 3,400 mm (11 ft) tall. Tare weight is 4,950 kg (10,900 lb). This weight permits a payload of 29,050 kg (64,050 lb). Feldbinder Spezialfahrzeugwerke GmbH, Gutenbergstrasse 12-26, D-21423 Winsen/Luhe, Germany.
