Oshkosh Truck Corp was awarded a $11.2 million contract for 22 Striker airport rescue and firefighting (ARFF) vehicles. The trucks were purchased as part of an ARFF fleet replacement and upgrade program. They will be used at John F Kennedy International, Newark International, and LaGuardia airports.

The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey is taking delivery of 14 units with 3,000-gallon water capacity and eight with 1,500-gallon water capacity.

The 14 Striker 3000 models are equipped with 3,000-gallon water tanks. Seven of the units feature Snozzle high-reach extendable turrets, while the others have 1,000-gallon-per-minute roof turrets. All 14 units feature Rhino high-volume bumper turrets that can discharge 1,200 gallons per minute.

Snozzle and Rhino products are manufactured by Crash Rescue Equipment Services of Dallas TX.

The new Strikers will undergo performance testing prior to delivery, scheduled to begin in spring 2002.
