John P. Messer, president of Messer Truck Equipment (Westbrook ME) and president of the National Truck Equipment Association (NTEA) in 1992-1993, died

John P. Messer, president of Messer Truck Equipment (Westbrook ME) and president of the National Truck Equipment Association (NTEA) in 1992-1993, died unexpectedly May 25, 2008, as the result of a cardiac event during a SCUBA certification dive. Messer served on the NTEA board of directors from 1988-1994. He was born in Portland ME and attended Clarkson University (Potsdam NY), graduating in 1969. In 1971, he joined the family business to become the third generation in Messer Truck Equipment. He was named president in 1985, and during his tenure with the company he helped to grow the business into one of the largest and most respected truck equipment distributorships in northern New England. Messer is survived by his wife, Terri; their three children, Kevin, Jeffrey, and Stephanie; two grandchildren; and his father, John F. Messer.
