J E “Jim” Lakin, chairman emeritus of Timpte Inc since his retirement from the firm in 2003, died suddenly at home May 14, 2012. He was 95. Lakin joined Timpte Brothers of Denver CO in 1937 as a mechanic and was promoted to shop foreman in 1942. In 1947 he moved to Albuquerque NM as manager of the new Timpte branch facility and was promoted to vice-president in 1958. Lakin moved back to Denver in 1961 and was promoted to vice-president and sales manager of Timpte. In 1966, he became an owner and was again promoted to director, vice-president, and general manager. In May 1969, the newly formed Timpte Industries appointed Lakin president. He was appointed chairman of the board in 1972 and sold his interest in the firm to the partners in 2003. In his honor, Timpte annually bestows its highest sales award: The J E “Jim” Lakin Award of Distinction. Services for Lakin were held May 17 in Denver CO.
