As a provider of market data and research to its members, the National Truck Equipment Association (NTEA) recently released the sixth Annual Manufacturers Shipments Survey (AMSS) to companies that participated in the study. The goal of the AMSS is to provide the commercial truck and transportation equipment industry with a credible source of data for market size in dollars and units, as well as annual growth.

In total, 77 companies reported. According to the survey, truck equipment industry shipments increased 17.2% overall in 2004.

Survey results are presented in two formats: the actual quantity (unit) and value of shipments (dollar) data, and indexes. The calculation of indexes allows for historical continuity over time as the mix of participating companies changes from year to year. This allows participants to accurately calculate percent change by market segment, aiding them in the development of annual market and operations forecasts.
