An estimated 6,939 VNL model trucks manufactured from April 2002 to November 2003 could be recalled, according to Volvo. Volvo began notifying owners Dec. 24 that an object left on the bunk while the bunk is in the stored position could switch on a bunk lamp, potentially resulting in a fire. Mack notified owners of certain chassis equipped with Dana steering axle assemblies that the steering arm could crack, allowing the ball stud to loosen, and potentially causing the driver to loose steering control.
