The Meritor Tire Inflation System by PSI is the most accepted tire-inflation system in the heavy-duty trucking industry, with one in every 10 trailers built in North America equipped with the system. As a result of its record 2005 sales, MTIS now protects nearly two million tires every day against under-inflation.

Pressure Systems International was the first to develop automatic tire inflation for heavy vehicles in the early 1990s. Over the ensuing 12 years, PSI's pioneering efforts in the field have yielded a number of patented technologies, such as the press plug and thru-t (developed jointly with STEMCO), which allow the use of the axle tube as the conduit for air pressure, greatly improving reliability.
