Medium and heavy truck sales down 26%

Medium and heavy trucks sold at an even slower pace in July, according to figures compiled by Wards Communications. Dealers sold 40,257 trucks with GVW ratings above 10,000 pounds during the month, down 26% from July 2006 and 15% from June 2007.

Dealers sold 40,257 trucks with GVW ratings above 10,000 pounds during the month, down 26% from July 2006 (54,090) and 15% from June 2007 (47,376).

Compared to July 2006, Class 8 trucks were down 55%, followed by Class 6 at 30%.

Through the first seven months of 2007, truck dealers sold 318,922 trucks with GVW ratings above 10,000 pounds, down 21% from the corresponding period of 2006.

Sales of light-duty trucks (GVW ratings of 10,000 pounds or less) kept the overall market at a decline of just 13% compared to July 2006, with Class 5 up 29% and Class 2 up 10%. For the year, total sales were down 4%.
