Medium and heavy truck sales were up 35% in June over the same period a year ago and up 8% from last month, according to figures compiled by Wards Communications.

Dealers sold 43,676 trucks with GVW ratings above 10,000 pounds during the month, up from June 2010 (32,418) and up from May 2011 (40,570).

Compared with June 2010, Class 8 trucks were up 65% (14,647, compared to 8,896). Class 7 sales were 3,450, up 4% from the 3,309 sold.

For the year, truck dealers have sold 226,324 trucks with GVW ratings above 10,000 pounds, up 31% from 172,853 in 2010. Class 8 sales have been 72,068, a 46% increase from the same period last year (49,257). Class 7 sales have been up 12% (20,414, compared to 18,232). Total sales of all classes have been up 14%, from 2,880,128 to 3,293,325.

Every class has been up, except for Class 4 (down 38%). The biggest increase has been in Class 5 (63%).
