Medium and heavy truck sales were up 33% in February over the same period a year ago and up 16% from last month, according to figures compiled by Wards Communications.

Dealers sold 43,813 trucks with GVW ratings above 10,000 pounds during the month, up from February 2011 (33,017) and up from January 2012 (37,764).

Compared with February 2011, Class 8 trucks were up 59% (14,119, compared to 9,712). Class 7 sales were 3,506, up 6% from the 3,293 sold.

For the year, truck dealers have sold 81,577 trucks with GVW ratings above 10,000 pounds, up 32% from 61,774 in 2011. Class 8 sales have been 29,537, a 56% increase from the same period last year (18,948). Class 7 sales have been up 11% (7,074, compared to 6,417). Total sales of all classes have been up 7%, from 980,969 to 1,049,700.

Every class has been up, with the biggest increases in Class 8 and Class 5 (29%).
