Medium and heavy truck sales were up 15% in April over the same period a year ago and up 5% from the previous month, according to figures compiled by Wards Communications

Medium and heavy truck sales were up 15% in April over the same period a year ago and up 5% from the previous month, according to figures compiled by Wards Communications.

Dealers sold 51,709 trucks with GVW ratings above 10,000 pounds during the month, up from April 2012 (45,048) and March 2013 (49,206).

Compared with April 2012, Class 8 trucks were down 7% (15,646, compared to 16,905). Class 7 sales were 4,565, up 7% from the 4,257 sold.

For the year, truck dealers have sold 184,239 trucks with GVW ratings above 10,000 pounds, up 10% from 178,359 in 2012. Class 8 sales have been 54,451, a 15% decrease from the same period last year (63,750). Class 7 sales have been down 5% (15,097, compared to 15,942). Total sales of all classes have been up 10%, from 2,324,430 to 2,564,492.

Class 1 through 6 have been up, with the biggest increase in Class 4 (24%).
