A BRAND NEW Mobile Command Center, designed and manufactured by Burlington, Wisconsin-based LDV to interface audio and video with other vehicles in the county and state, recently was delivered to the Lorain County Police Department in Ohio.

Equipped with advanced technology to help emergency response professionals respond to any type of situation, this command center features the latest slide-out technology. The electrically driven slide-out area is controlled by PLC logic controls with a pneumatic seal around the perimeter. This area of the command center expands the department's high-tech communication space, allowing officers an additional 30 square feet of space.

This Mobile Command Center is built on a 30,000-pound GVWR Freightliner MT-55 chassis powered by a Cummins turbo-charged diesel engine. It also features an Allison 2500EVS five-speed automatic transmission and an air-ride suspension.

The communications features of this vehicle include nine flat-screen monitors capable of receiving satellite, closed circuit, regular television broadcasts, and two external video inputs. The high-performance closed-circuit video system is mounted on a pneumatic telescoping mast that is equipped with a color/low-light camera. An expandable modulated system can route any audio/video source to any monitor via remote control, and be recorded and played on any one of several DVD/VHS recorders/players. A color video printer can also freeze a frame from the monitor screens and print a color image comparable to a 35mm print.

The command section is pre-wired for up to 22 radios with an interoperability system for 12 radios enabling inter-agency communications. The phone system consists of six landline inputs, six cellular units, and 13 total interior and exterior extensions. A certified CAT6 computer network is installed at nine work stations with an interactive smart board that routes multimedia projects.

Other features include:

  • A 20 kW liquid-cooled diesel generator.

  • All LED light system.

  • Global Positioning System.

  • A Columbia Weather Systems Capricorn 000 rack mounted weather station with LCD touch screen.

  • Heavy-duty Quadra MFG. Inc. Big Foot four-point automatic one-touch leveling system.

  • Full galley and lavatory.
