In a year when medium-duty truck sales are projected to remain flat, Kenworth Truck Co. said it is expecting record medium-duty sales. With that in mind, Kenworth said today it has recently increased its build rate by 15% for its medium duty model T300. "It continues to grow in popularity in the marketplace, and we've upped our build rate to keep pace with demand," said Mike Parrish, Kenworth's medium duty product marketing manager. "Last year we grew our T300 sales by over 35%, which is particularly noteworthy since industry-wide, medium duty truck sales were off 20% from the year before." Parrish made these remarks during Kenworth's T300 Chassis Update Seminar yesterday at The Work Truck Show in Atlanta. While the T300 has made its mark in Class 7 applications, Parrish said it's also becoming more popular in Class 6 operations and in applications up to 33,000 GVW using hydraulic brakes. Company spokesman Jeff Parietti told Fleet Owner that Kenworth's workforce will not need to be increased to support the build rate.
