Kögel is showing a completely new type of de-icing system at the IAA Commercial Vehicles show. The system uses a special carbon heating surface prevent ice from forming on trailer roofs. The Kögel roof de-icing system can use a thermostat to maintain the exterior surface of the roof constantly above freezing point.

In Europe, drivers are required by law to remove the accumulated water and ice from the flat roofs of their trucks before starting out. Kögel’s new roof de-icing system they can do this simply by activating the system and let the carbon heating surface do the rest. The exterior surface of the roof will then be kept above freezing point permanently so that no ice at all can form. It normally operates with a thermostat but can be be put into action for short periods manually as required. At 1,500 Watts, the system's power consumption is comparatively thrifty. The carbon heating surface is integrated into the roof and does not require any leads that might interfere with the loading process or reduce the effective interior height of the trailer.
