Cummins Westport Inc., a joint venture of Cummins Inc. and Westport Innovations Inc., has completed the first multiple-unit delivery of heavy-duty trucks using the low-emissions ISX-G heavy-duty natural gas engine.

The multiple-unit delivery involved 14 Peterbilt heavy-duty trucks to Sanitary Fill Company in San Francisco, a subsidiary of Norcal Waste Systems Inc. The first of the Norcal trucks was delivered in August and already has logged more than 20,000 miles.

The final truck was delivered more than a month ahead of its target date, Cummins Westport said. Sanitary Fill has ordered nine more trucks with ISX-G engines for delivery in the second half of 2002.

"We're very encouraged by the exceptional early performance of the ISX-G, which is demonstrating combustion so clean that we may be able to extend oil change intervals," said Guff Muench, president of Cummins Westport.
