Jacobs Vehicle Systems, a wholly owned subsidiary of Danaher Corp, has announced the 40th anniversary of the shipment of its first engine brake kit.

By 1957, the Jacobs Engine Brake was patented and being tested. Since then, North American heavy-duty diesel engines and many Asian and European diesel engines have come to use Jake Brake retarders. In 1983, Jacobs celebrated production of its 500,000th brake. One million brake kits were produced by 1993, and in 1999, Jacobs Vehicle Systems shipped its 2,000,000th brake kit.
