International Truck and Engine Corp. has announced securing a major deal to supply Smithway Motor Express (SMX) with 215 International 9400i on-highway

International Truck and Engine Corp. has announced securing a major deal to supply Smithway Motor Express (SMX) with 215 International 9400i on-highway trucks.

This transaction will replace 25% of SMX’s fleet with the new Class 8 trucks.

“The future looks very bright for SMX and we’re confident that International can help us drive toward continued profitable growth,” said Chad Johnson, SMX vp of vehicle operations.

SMX cited fuel efficiency, ease of service, uptime performance and a thorough dealer network as factors in its decision to choose International. The slope-nose design of the 9400i will result in up to a half-mile per gallon gain in fuel efficiency, the truck manufacturer said. Additionally, SMX was able to change the gear ratios on the new trucks to 3.55 to further enhance fuel efficiency.

“We offered SMX a fresh, sleek and sophisticated-looking vehicle that also contributes to the health of their bottom line,” said Tom Lerch, International vp of Midwest Region Sales.
