KRISPY KREME DOUGHNUTS Inc is rolling its first-ever Krispy Kreme mobile store — a complete Krispy Kreme store on wheels that produces fresh, hot Krispy Kreme doughnuts and coffee — across the United States.

Customers visiting the mobile store will experience what many have called “a doughnut-making theater” — the process of seeing doughnuts rising, cooking, and being glazed and served to customers hot off the line. “Seeing the doughnuts made fresh before your eyes and served hot has been part of the Krispy Kreme experience since Krispy Kreme was founded in 1937,” said Scott Livengood, chairman, president, and chief executive officer of Krispy Kreme.

“We're thrilled to be taking the hot doughnut experience across America through this one-of-a-kind mobile store tour,” Livengood said. “Our mobile store will travel to large festivals, fairs, and other major events. Customers visiting the mobile store will have the same full ‘Krispy Kreme experience’ that they would have at any of our more than 215 Krispy Kreme stores across North America.”

A custom-designed, tractor trailer serves as both carrier and production line for the mobile store. The store can produce up to 100 dozen signature Original Glazed doughnuts per hour. Along with the Original Glazed doughnuts, the mobile store will also serve other varieties of Krispy Kreme doughnuts, the company's new blend of fresh-roasted coffee, other beverages, and an assortment of Krispy Kreme collectibles (including T-shirts, hats, coffee mugs, and mobile tour collectible trucks).

Krispy Kreme began in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, when Vernon Rudolph, founder of the company, bought a secret, yeast-raised doughnut recipe from a French chef in New Orleans, Louisiana. From the recipe, Rudolph developed the signature Original Glazed doughnut, which Krispy Kreme announces to customers with a glowing neon “Hot Doughnuts Now” sign in storefronts. When the Hot Light is illuminated, that means Krispy Kreme Original Glazed doughnuts can be purchased hot off the production line.

Krispy Kreme has stores across the United States and Canada and produces approximately 5 million doughnuts a day and more than 2 billion doughnuts a year. In fact, in less than two minutes, all Krispy Kreme stores combined can produce enough doughnuts to make a stack as high as the Empire State Building.

After its launch March 23, 2002, in Krispy Kreme's hometown of Winston-Salem, the first stop for the mobile tour occurred March 27 in Norfolk, Virginia, where it treated servicemen and women of the USS Roosevelt and their families to fresh doughnuts and coffee on their return home from months of overseas duty.
