Heavy truck demand in China fell in the fourth quarter, due to continuing construction market weakness, while growth in consumer spending supported increased road freight transportation, according to the recently released China Commercial Vehicle Outlook jointly published by ACT and SIC, China’s State Information Center.

Heavy-duty tractor sales declined, but medium-duty truck demand exceeded expectations.

“Two major factors impacting China were the slowdowns in both real estate and infrastructure investments,” said Frank Maly, director of CV transportation analysis & research at ACT. “Both had a negative impact on construction/engineering heavy truck demand. Some improvement is projected for federal and local infrastructure spending, which will help support the heavy truck market in the near term.”
