Freightliner and Sterling Truck Corporation unveiled a Condor front loader to the refuse industry April 3-5 at the Waste Expo 2001 show in Chicago.

Advantages of the front loader include:

• Visibility. A panoramic, 238-degree field of vision and over 43 square feet of glass are standard. Optional rear window configurations can increase the amount of glass area to 47 square feet for a 273-degree field of vision.

• Maneuverability. Low cab forward design, set-back front axle and up to a 46-degree wheel cut combine to enhance maneuverability, making it easier to steer truck into position to pick up refuse containers.

• Comfort. Interior accommodates drivers from the 5th to 95th percentile in body size. The cab has plenty of storage space behind the seats; clipboard-sized molded door pockets, a center well between the front seats, and a flat, obstruction-free floor with safer access to the pedals and plenty of foot room.

Freightliner and Sterling are offering the Condor in multiple steering configurations, including left-hand steer, right-hand steer, dual steer, and left-hand steer with stand-up right-hand drive. Front axle ratings will range from 12,000 to 20,000 pounds, with 21,000- to 70,000-lb rear axles available. Engines up to 380 horsepower will be offered.
