Edwin B. Lehnert, former president of E. Lehnert & Sons, died in his sleep of a suspected heart ailment Nov. 6 at his home in Havre de Grace, Maryland. He was 82

Edwin B. Lehnert, former president of E. Lehnert & Sons, died in his sleep of a suspected heart ailment Nov. 6 at his home in Havre de Grace, Maryland. He was 82.

Lehnert was a fixture at the Baltimore-based company, whose assets were purchased in 2002 by Dejana Truck & Utility Equipment Co. of NY.

He was drafted in 1943 and commissioned as a second lieutenant a year later. For the rest of World War II, he was stationed at various bases, including Fort Benning, Ga. He was discharged from active duty in 1946.

He earned a chemical engineering degree at Johns Hopkins University and in 1950 joined his father, J. Edwin Lehnert, in the family business. He was named president in 1968 when his father retired.

He is survived by his wife, Ruthanna; daughters Julia Lehnert, Susan Quigley, Gretchen Lehnert and Sarah Renehan; son, Maj. Erich Lehnert; brother, C. Richard Lehnert; and 12 grandchildren.
