Diesel up 4.2 cents to $2.276

The national average price for a gallon of diesel rose another 4.2 cents this week to average $2.276 per gallon, according to the Energy Information Administration (EIA). The jump puts prices only four cents shy of the $2.316 record high set on April 11.

All regions reported an increase, but the largest was posted in the Central Atlantic region on a 5.6-cent climb to $2.399. The Rocky Mountain region not only had the steadiest prices, but also the cheapest given a 1.9-cent hike to $2.21. California saw the highest prices at $2.457 after rising 3.6 cents.
