Con-way Freight, a less-than-truckload carrier and subsidiary of Con-way Inc., today announced the completion of a major expansion to its freight assembly center in Fremont, Ind.

Completed earlier this year, the expanded 90,160 square-foot facility has 60 new dock doors, which will increase freight handling capacity by nearly 700,000 pounds of freight daily. Con-way's Freight Assembly Centers (FACs) are strategically-located, high-volume facilities that serve as freight processing hubs for the nightly trans-shipment of cargoes within the company's network of more than 440 service centers located nationwide.

With the expansion, the Fremont FAC now has 204 dock doors to accommodate the more than 450 trailers and 120 tractors that utilize the center daily as the home base for local pick-up and delivery serving the greater Fremont metro area, and at night in the freight re-distribution operation. The additional freight handling capacity will enable the operation to better handle the current influx of business as well as manage efficient growth. As business volumes increase, the expanded facility also will provide hiring opportunities for new driver sales representatives (DSRs), operations support and customer service personnel.

The Fremont, Ind., FAC is located at 6755 Old State Road 27 at the intersection of I-69 and the Indiana State toll road.
