Asian cities order low-emissions engines

Cummins Westport Inc, a joint venture of Cummins Inc of Columbus IN and Westport Innovations Inc of Vancouver, British Columbia, has received orders for 62 low-emissions natural gas engines for transit service in three cities in Asia.

These orders include both B5.9G-230 horsepower engines and C Gas Plus engines. They represent new market areas for Cummins Westport and follow a previous order in December 2002 for 10 B5.9G engines for Xining, capital of Qinghai Province. All of the engines will be delivered by March 2003.

Cummins Westport's largest customer in Asia remains Beijing, which has about 2,000 B5.9G engines in transit bus service. The five Asian cities that have purchased Cummins Westport natural gas engines operate a combined total of more than 35,000 transit buses.
