Inventor has modified liftgate for DIY'ers

InventHelp announces that one of its clients, an inventor from Spanish Fork UT, has designed a modified liftgate that would be suitable for professional and do-it-yourself use.

The Safety Lift Gate would minimize the risk of accidents and injuries during operation. Likewise, the invention would protect the truck's contents from damage and would feature easy installation and operation.

The inventor's professional experiences led to the development of the Safety Lift Gate. “I use liftgates often for my job, and I needed an easier and more secure method of operating a liftgate,” he said.

The original design was submitted to the Salt Lake City office of InventHelp. It is available for licensing or sale to manufacturers or marketers. For more information, write Dept. 05-STU-1134, InventHelp, 217 Ninth St, Pittsburgh PA 15222, or call (412) 288-1300 ext 1368. Learn more about InventHelp at www.InventHelp.com.

Newest PALGATE ready for ‘heavy’ duty

PALGATE — the tailgate lift from PALFINGER — is introducing the new PTG 2000 L. With a lifting capacity of 2,000 kg at 750-mm load distance, this liftgate is designed for heavy-load distribution. Besides its simple assembly and proven cylinder technology, it has several intelligent equipment features.

With the power pack installed in the main support tube the PTG 2000 L works quietly and requires little maintenance. Standard equipment includes a newly developed control system with fault recognition as well as an illuminated hand control box with a protective cover and an underride guard, certified in line with European directives. Also standard are ground rollers and piston rod protection on all cylinders.

Underride protection is available in two versions: a three-section unit, which can be adjusted in height and depth; or an adjustable single-section unit that can be mounted on the lift shackle. Offset adjustment eyes for the closing cylinders can be supplied on request for assembly on truck bodies with a high rear-ground connection.

A new automatic ground adaptation system ensures reliable and safe operation. E-mail Harald Bohaker at [email protected] for more details.

Tommy Gate has its drop chains covered

Tommy Gate has added platform drop chain covers on its full line of liftgates. The covers now provide a quieter ride, preventing the “clanging” noise created when chains rub against each other while the vehicle is moving.

In addition, the covers resist corrosion from rain or snow, and they give liftgates a durable, uniform image.

Waltco WDL-XT comes in four capacities

Waltco Truck Equipment Co introduces the Waltco Direct Lift (WDL) Extra Tough (XT) rail-type liftgate, for the most demanding applications. The Waltco WDL-XT is available in four weight capacities: 3,500, 4,500, 5,500, and 6,500 pounds and in both steel and aluminum platforms.

Closed circuit, volume-balanced lift cylinders ensure an even lift under any loading condition, without the use of a flow divider valve. Self-bleeding lift cylinders, which are matched to gate capacity, also help reduce installation time. All wiring and connections feature a “plug and play” design and meet or exceed all Technology & Maintenance Council (TMC) recommended practices. The hydraulic system, which incorporates a thermally protected power unit, is designed to maximize fluid flow rate, enhancing the liftgate's operational performance while minimizing amperage draw requirements.

POWERPlatform saves time, wear and tear

The POWERPlatform from Johnson Refrigerated Truck Bodies is an in-body drop floor system that holds up to 3,000 pounds of refrigerated product. It quickly lowers driver and product to street level for delivery.

Because the POWERPlatform eliminates the traditional liftgate at each delivery stop, driver productivity is increased and fatigue and worker compensation claims are decreased. Advantages for food transportation customers include:

  • Time savings. Dairy, milk, and beer distributors report increased driver productivity and time savings of 1-3 hours on their routes per day.

  • The platform switch features an alarm for safety.

  • A tight seal permits fast and accurate temperature recovery between delivery stops.

  • The pump and motor assembly are enclosed in a weatherproof utility box. The heavy-duty hydraulic piston assemblies are embedded in the refrigerated body insulated walls.

  • Tubular steel framing protects hydraulic hoses.

  • Custom-built heavy-duty hydraulic pistons feature 100,000-cycle life before rebuild.

POWERPlatform may be used in Johnson's Premier 16- to 26-foot refrigerated truck bodies. It is 42 inches × 59½ inches with a 3,000-lb carrying capacity and can be operated using an in-body hand-held remote or outside toggle switch. An optional side gate delivery is available with 1,500-lb capacity.
