Medium and heavy trucks sold at a brisker pace in October, according to figures compiled by Wards Communications.

Dealers sold 56,928 trucks with GVW ratings above 10,000 pounds during the month, up 11% from October 2005.

Class 6 trucks led the way with an increase of 74% when compared with October 2005 sales. Class 8 (12%) was the only other class to show a double-digit gain.

Through the first 10 months of 2006, truck dealers sold 579,110 trucks with GVW ratings above 10,000 pounds, up 5% from the corresponding period of 2005.

Brisk sales of light-duty trucks (GVW ratings of 10,000 pounds or less) boosted the overall market. Retail sales of Class 2 trucks were up 40% from October 2005, contributing to the overall 15% increase. For the year, Class 2 sales were still down 6% from a year earlier.
