New diesel record is $3.15

The national average price for a gallon of diesel increased 0.6 cents to $3.15 for the week ending Oct. 9, the Energy Information Administration (EIA) said. Although prices fell significantly in most regions, run-ups in the Midwest and Rocky Mountain regions brought the average up.
Prices took the biggest plunge in the New England region, down 6.5 cents to $2.947. New England also held the crown for the cheapest region in which to fill up that week.
The Rocky Mountain region saw the sharpest fuel spike that week, up 6.4 cents to $3.143. The most expensive region in which to buy diesel was the Lower Atlantic region at $3.252, despite a 3.1-cent decline.
